"Shaggy" as some call him, is not a house pet.The Andean bear cub, one of a threatened species, has found temporary refuge in the home of animal rights activist Susana Del Carpo
SOUNDBITE: SOS Animal Rescue President Susana Del Carpo, saying (Spanish):
"They brought the bear in a bag with a dog collar. A boy had been trying to sell him. The town doctor took bear off the boy, but the animal had very bad diarrhea and had no appetite whatsoever."
His caregivers know that he is about two months old, was born in the wild and just loves vanilla yoghurt.
But what they are going to do with him is still a total mystery.
Veterinarians from the La Paz municipal zoo provided the medicines and services to help nurse him back to health, but say they have no room for him at the zoo.
It would be ideal to return him to the wild, but because he is so young he would be utterly defenseless.
As for becoming a house pet --while a cub may be sweet, home is no place for a full grown bear.
