The image won Sudipto Das The 2007 Environmental Photographer of the Year award organised by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), a registered charity which works for a clean, green and sustainable world.

He won the Urban Environment category and was then selected by Chief Executive of the Environment Agency, Baroness Barbara Young, as the overall competition winner.

She said: "This photograph brings home just how many people are excluded from access to good environments due to poverty. This is a beautiful and heartbreaking image."
