'Green Unicorn' Makes Its Arrival
A rare snake is captured on camera as it emerges from its shell at London Zoo.
Its successful arrival marks the first time the rhino rat snake (Rhynchophis boulengeri) has been bred in Europe. The species of snake, which comes from the mountains of Vietnam, is often nicknamed the "green unicorn" because of its horn-like nose.
The baby snake will turn green when it is about one year old.
It will grow to about three feet in length and feed on geckos, frogs and rodents.
Keepers at ZSL London Zoo's Reptile House managed to breed a clutch of eight snakes.
Three of them have gone to different zoos as part of an exchange programme to increase the captive population in Europe.
