Study Shows Optimists Live Longer Than Pessimists
(Chicago, IL) -- A new University of Pittsburgh study will likely give pessmists another reason to gripe.
Research indicates optimists live longer, are less likely to have high blood pressure, smoke cigarettes and have diabetes.
The study looked at the death rates and appearance of chronic health conditions included in the Women's Health Initiative study. That study followed more than 100-thousand women over the age of 50 for the past 15 years.
Those who expect positive things to happen rather than bad happenings were 30-percent less likely to die from heart disease than pessimists.
One researcher noted pessimistic women were 23-percent more likely to die from cancer and those who are, quote, "cynically hostile" are were noted to be 16-percent more likely to die from any cause.
